Ringside revival: a community fightback
Backed by Skillcrown and Golding Homes, this award-winning initiative went far beyond simply refurbishing a building. It created opportunity, stability and purpose for disadvantaged young people at a time when many families were struggling with the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
The completed project was recognised at the RICS UK Awards 2026 South East, where Skillcrown and Golding Homes won the Community Benefit Award.
Maidstone Amateur Boxing Club had long provided a safe and inclusive space for people of all ages and backgrounds. For many, it was more than just a sports facility. It was a lifeline. The club offered young people an alternative to the streets, helping to reduce antisocial behaviour while giving them something meaningful to belong to and believe in.
Demand for the club’s services had continued to grow. Some families were under such financial pressure that children were having to share basic equipment, including a single mouthguard, simply because they could not afford their own. The club was doing everything it could, but it urgently needed support.
Together, we worked through a priority wish list, from a new boxing ring and essential training kit to vital repairs and redecoration, to help ensure this important community hub could continue making a difference for those who needed it most.
