Community-led artwork brings colour to our High Street, Wanstead development

At Skillcrown, we believe the best developments are shaped not just by good design, but by the people who live around them.  That's why we were proud to support a community-led initiative that has transformed the construction hoarding at our High Street, Wanstead project into something the local community can enjoy throughout the build.

Working alongside Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing, local residents were invited to take part in a design workshop to share ideas, stories and artwork celebrating Wanstead's character and history.  The result is a vibrant hoarding that reflects the area's creativity, heritage and community spirit.  And yes, the now-famous "Space Cows" even made the final design!

Construction hoardings are often viewed as a temporary necessity.  This project shows how they can become a positive feature within the neighbourhood, creating interest, encouraging conversation and giving local people a genuine sense of ownership over the place where they live.

By involving residents from the outset, we've created something that not only brightens the site while construction is underway, but also celebrates the identity of Wanstead and helps strengthen connections between the development and the wider community.

For us, social value isn't simply about delivering homes. It's about creating places where people feel connected, listening to local voices and leaving a positive legacy that extends well beyond construction.
