Skillcrown’s £25 million property project set to boost housing in Croydon

Here at Skillcrown, we are well underway in a major development in excess of £25 million to deliver 113 new homes to Croydon’s historic old town. Croydon Borough has one of the biggest London housing targets with an expected growth of 30,000 homes by 2029. Skillcrown will be providing a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments for shared ownership and affordable rent on behalf of Housing Association, Optivo.

Located on Cairo New Road in the heart of Croydon, the development is perfectly served by the popular tram link and nearby West Croydon train station. The main shopping centre is within walking distance and the build will also be in close proximity to the new Westfield Shopping Centre.

Kevin Clark, Land & Business Development Director at Skillcrown comments on the lead up to the project, “Prior to getting the build underway, we assisted the Pastor of MFM to find a new location for his church group. It was only after this and when certain logistics were overcome that we began clearing the site. “

Previously a 1960s warehouse, it was recently used by church group Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), construction of the development has now commenced to build the planned structure of a part four and part 14 storeys. Most of the apartments will have balconies and residents will also benefit from the outside amenity area. Additionally, the development will have space for a retail unit on the ground floor.  In addition to the new homes, renovation to the public realm close to the site and a listed former mission hall are to be carried out to improve the landscape of the immediate area.”

“We are delighted to be working with Optivo as part of the housing boom in Croydon in creating opportunities for people get onto the property ladder,” said Salik Osman, Managing Director at Skillcrown. “It’s the ideal time for people to snap up a property in Croydon with Westfield Shopping Centre on the horizon and other regeneration projects taking shape.” Salik continued. “Currently the groundworks are progressing well and our goal to complete the project by early 2020, which we are on track to fulfil. Since starting the project and throughout, our priority is to ensure minimal disruption for the local neighbourhood and maintain our high standards for construction work.”

“Skillcrown sourced the location and came to us with a proposal we couldn’t turn down, said Optivo. “We’ve had previous experience working with the team and are confident this new development will be popular in Croydon.”
