Skillcrown supports Alan Stewart’s 100-mile walk for British Heart Foundation

The Skillcrown team would like to extend a huge congratulations to Alan Stewart for successfully completing a continuous 100-mile walk over 48 hours, in aid of the British Heart Foundation. We have known Alan for many years, as our former IT consultant, and were pleased to be able to donate £100 to his worthy cause. His walk has raised a total of over £2800 for the charity so far.

As if the 100-mile walk was not impressive enough, Alan covered the whole distance continuously in just 54 hours. Starting in Hastings, he followed the route and rules of the 2018 LDWA ‘Cinque Ports 100, walking to Sandwich, and finishing in Dover. You can see the exact route taken here. He was completely unsupported, carrying as much food and water as possible and restocking his supplies along the way.

The British Heart Foundation has a personal connection for Alan. Last year he underwent open heart surgery to replace his aortic valve and had a coronary artery bypass at the same time. He has been a committed supporter of the British Heart Foundation ever since. In taking on this challenge, his intention was to give back to the people who supported him in his recovery during what has been an especially difficult time.

“I am extremely grateful for the wonderful skill and care of the cardiac team at King’s College Hospital in the midst of the pandemic,” Alan says, “I have also benefitted in my recovery from the research carried out over many years by the British Heart Foundation, whose funding has been cut by 50% as a result of coronavirus.”
