A day in the life of… Harry Taylor’s university placement

“I am currently on a one-year work placement and over the past six months I have spent my time rotating in the land and planning department and on site at Skillcrown’s current developments, assisting site managers.”

What is your favourite thing about your placement?

I really enjoy how varied construction can be, especially being on a rotational programme, no one day is the same. Following a project and understanding the different components to completing a development is very interesting and I look forward to learning more on my placement.

What does your day consist of?

Now I’m in the Land and Planning department, mornings usually mean working alongside the Land & Business development Director, assisting with tasks that need to be completed to specific deadlines, dealing with emails and calls of potential land opportunities. I attend meetings which consist of negotiations, establishing a rapport and building relationships with various land owners. I may also research new opportunities for Skillcrown which can often require heading out of office.

Where do you want your career to take you?

Once I graduate, I’ll have a degree in Business Management with a year in industry. With many paths to go down in construction, I’m still exploring my options. However, land and buying is an area I’m keen to go into.
